There are two types of most common termite in Hong Kong: 1. Coptotermes formosanus contain more than 90% of the termite population. They belong to Rhinotermitidae, they are distributed all over Hong Kong. The maximum active area of one nest is about 625 square metre. There are about two million active termites in the nest; the queen can lay 2000 eggs daily. They destroy furniture, wooden floor and door. 2. Macrotermes barneyi, they live in forest area. This kind of termite cost less economic loss in Hong Kong.

Behavior
 
1 King of termite They accompany with the queen. A decision maker.

5 Reproductive termite Breeding termite. They have a pair of wings.
6 Soldier termite They guard and protect the nest and other termite.
7 Worker termite They look for food and look after other kinds of termite.


The division phenomenon

From April to June every year, the reproductive termite will fly not too high from the ground. This tells the nest is being mature; some reproductive termites fly away from the old nest and look for a new place to live, and carry on the reproductive activity.
